Food Struggles

One of my biggest concerns now that babes is eating food - real food, not baby food/breast milk - is that she's not getting the nutrition she needs.

("Mom, I'm pretty sure this is not a healthy move!")

Okay, so it's not always this bad..... but we are in a food rut, especially at lunch time. (mac&cheese anyone?)

Side note: I've always struggled when it comes to eating a well-balanced diet myself. I find I get intimidated when it comes to healthy food because I don't know that much about it. I especially get overwhelmed at the grocery store and usually go for what's easy over what's healthy... I know, I know.

So this weekend I spent hours online looking for help in the form of healthy "one year old" menu ideas.

I found some great information at LiveStrong.com, but my saving grace was Babble. I've looked at this site for topics like fashion but never realized what a great resource it is for food!

It has a lot of great ideas when it comes to feeding kids:

You'll have to check out "A Dozen Easy Muffin Recipes"

Now to my big find on Babble: "Top 100 Food Mom Blogs" These blogs are great for recipes not only for baby but for the entire fam! (I really like The Naptime Chef.)

My big take-away: I need to give baby more options - healthy options - at each meal. (Like if I make her mac&cheese I should also add in a veggie and a fruit on the side.) I also picked up some healthier items like hummus, cheese, avocados and beans.

She really liked this snack I made her (cheese, hummus and whole wheat crackers and peaches):

I know it's not that complex, but I'm feeling so much better.
