Weekend Happenings

Took the girls to Chicago for the weekend for my cousin's bridal shower.

Hello Mimosa.

It was a great weekend but a long drive. We're taking it easy today - sleeping in and lying around the house. Would someone please let my 2 year old know that's the plan? She's not cooperating.

P.S. GPS - we are breaking up. I didn't find it funny when you lead me into the middle of cornfields only to LOSE YOUR SATELLITE! Hello panic.

Turkey Tacos

I usually try to keep it simple and healthy when I cook at home. I don't count calories or points or anything like that, but I will make what I think are healthier choices - like using whole grain pasta over regular pasta.

My latest effort has been to ditch the ground beef "taco in a box" taco night for ground turkey and better-for-you toppings.
At first it doesn't sound too tasty, but I can honestly say I will never go back to using ground beef for tacos. Ground turkey is pretty simple to pack with flavor, and it doesn't boast the grease that you have to drain using beef.
I combine turkey with about 1/4 of an onion chopped. I cook it until there's no pink in the turkey and then add in a little cumin, oregano, chili powder and a dab of salt and pepper. I also add half a can of chopped tomatoes.

This night I chopped some spinach leaves, onions and an avocado for the toppings. (Have I mentioned my love affair with avocado? LOVE it.) The plate would look even better if I had some tomatoes chopped up as well as purple onion, just to add some color.

I also added some black beans. I simply heat up the canned black beans in the microwave. (Have I mentioned Ana's love affair with black beans? She LOVES them.)
I use plain tortillas that I also heat up in the microwave. I contemplated buying whole wheat tortillas this week at the grocery store but didn't. I will try them one of these days - but baby steps here people!
My husband eats these tacos with just the turkey. He says they have so much flavor that he doesn't need to add any toppings. I like toppings.

Changes

You may notice a different look around here. I've been thinking for a while now that I wanted to change up the look of this blog.

Change is good, right?

I'm looking for something a bit more sophisticated and bit simpler, hence buh-bye pink stripes and flowers.

I'm not done yet.

Fall Fashion

As I sit here writing to you, both of my babies are sound asleep. It's always nice to have some time to myself and do a little online browsing.

So, I've been thinking about what items to add to your closet for fall and I have two ...

1. Booties. I love my tall boots in the fall but I think it's time to add a lower cut boot to the mix. You do have to be careful though - they aren't always the most flattering. I really like them paired with jean leggings like this:
Check out these wedge boots I saw in J.Crew last weekend:
I like.

2. Black leather. Like leather leggings. They're everywhere right now.
You could also do it in a dress like this one from Theory:
Leather would definitely spice up my look. It's beginning to feel a little "mom-ish" if you know what I mean. But then again, I would have to find somewhere to wear leather leggings...

Hello

It's been a long time. For a moment there, I wasn't even sure if I would return to blogging. It's hard to post something "fabulous" when you don't feel very fabulous or even close to it. Families go through their ups and downs, and we definitely hit some high and low notes this summer.

I will say, though, thank you God for my two babies.

Evelyn's smiles and little coos of delight can brighten any mood. In fact, I just read tonight that I'm in the "golden age of babyhood." Boy, is that true!!
And Ana's turned into a very good big sister. She loves her "vee vee" so much. By the way, Ana is in a  toddler bed now, she's talking up a storm and she's one funny little girl.
This picture amazes me because her hair - on a daily basis - looks nowhere near as tame as it does here.
It's usually a mess of curls. I haven't figured out yet how to talk her into letting me put bows in her hair, much less brush it!!

On an unrelated note, I've been thinking of signing up for a yoga class. I'm a bit intimidated because flexibility really isn't my thing. I need to do something for me though - and only me - and I thought this might work.

Any other ideas?

Welcome Evie!

We welcomed our little baby Evelyn last week.

She's such a sweet baby and I think her big sister thinks so too.

I never imagined it would be this much fun to have two little ones. We are truly enjoying this time.
